Sunrise downhill riding at Haleakala (House
of the Sun) - 0245 pickup for Sunrise downhill cycling tour with Maui Mountain Riders - Safety video and van ride up to the summit - Waitng at 10,000 ft elevation, freezing temp, strong wind chills ... COLD !! - Finally, the perfect sunrise at 0607 ... AWESOME !! - Let's get rocking ... downhill riding, dropping 10,000 ft over 38 miles through countless hairpin turns among the clouds ... you got to experience this ! - Breakfast Pitstop - burritos and hot coffee (Really good and large burritos with scrambled eggs, salsa, guacamole, bacons and other good stuff) - Uncle Russ and Alex from Maui Mountain Riders (Safe, reliable, definitely knows what they are doing and fun... highly recommeded) Whalewatch with Pacific Whale Foundation - season is slowing already in Early April - spotted a mother and calf, a male trying to join the group - we were so lucky to witness the calf breaching the water 4 times Dinner at Maui Brewing Company |
| 08 Apr 2006 | Diving at Lanai and Maui 0645 Check-in with Extended Horizons for 2 dives at Lanai and Maui Dive 1: Monolith & Never Never Land, Lanai - Single monolith structure with lots of endepmic toby, angelsfishes & wrasses Dive 2: Cathagina Wreck, Maui - Literally brand new wreck sank by the submarine company in 2005. - Kind of funny that the submarine was circling the wreck taking photos of divers on the wreck and we divers were posing for submarine photos when it passes by * Extended Horizons follows PADI dive tables strictly if you do not own a computer. So if you want to get any reasonable bottom time, you will need to bring or rent one. CheeseBurger in paraside (Lahania) - Angus beef burgers with everything in bacon, cheddar, mushroom, swiss cheese, guacamole, onions and tomatoes Laua at Hyatt Maui - Drums of the Pacific - Fanfare opening with torch lighting ritual and un-earthing of the kuala pig - The kuala pig is cooked by stuffing heated river stone and burying it in the underground oven (imu) - Kuala pork is shredded and taste really juicy and good - Lomi lomi slamon salad, Ahi Poke, Poi (yam paste staple of hawaiian) - The show potrays the 7 different polynesian culture ... Hula dance, Spear dance, Haka war dance, Fire dance was impressive |

So, if you want to rent the place, probably needs about 15 people to share all 4 units Dinner at Kona Brewing Company - Liliko pale ale (local passion fruit) - Great pizza |
| 10 Apr 2006 | Volcano tour with Hawaii Forest & Trails - Saddle Road between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea - Breakfast at 5000 ft with Mauna Loa as backdrop (never regreted bring all my warn clothings to hawaii) - Feels like Mars when travelling among all these lava scapes and misty clouds - drive through Hilo to the Volcano National Park - Volcano National park Vistor's Center - First view of the caldera from the Volvano house (hotel) - Halemauman Overlook - Jaggar museum (live seismograph feeds and great view of Mauna Loa) - Chains of crater Road - Short hike to view the active lava flows to the sea (cannot get much closer since the November 2005, 44 hectares collapase ) - Thurston's lava tube - Long drive back to Kona, glad i am not driving after such a long day ... zzz |

Diving the Big Island , Red Hill Kona Honu Divers, great boat "Honu One", great crew, great diving !! There were 18 divers on-board, but the crew were extremely systematic and orgnaized that you don't feel the crowd at all. Guide to diver ratio is 1:6 Recommended !! 0800 Check-in at Honokohua Harbour Dive 1: Long Lava tubes, Red Hill - swim throughs in 80ft long underwater lava tubes with a few skylights Dive 2: Henry's Cave - quite a large cave with a resident whitetip reef shark Dinner at Manago Hotel & Restaurant - still retains its 1917 feel, rustic and full of character - old pictures of the original 1917 building all over the walls - antique kendo sets displayed there (belonging to the 1st generation of Manago? ) - great atmosphere, great home cooked style food, most reasonable pricing - pork chops and new york steak with side dishes of tofu, japanese seaweed salad, mashed potatos and rice |
