09 Oct 2012 - From Nadi to Savusavu

7 Nights stay at Korosun Resort
The Korosun Resort is a short 15 mins drive from the Savusavu Airport. Arvin the resort driver, met us at the airport, gave a welcome foot massage and also the attendant to help carry our bags to the Bure.

We check-in to the 2-room ocean-front bure. It is located up a hill, so lots of exercise for us after a dive lugging our camera setup up the slope. Each night, we also had to navigate up the slope and avoiding the friendly toads on the path. Torch lights are a must bring item for the trip.

Exploring the resort and chilling by the lounge for afternoon tea. The swimming pool which we rinse off after each dive. The lotus pond in the resort was espscially beautiful in the morning when they are all in bloom.

Diving was limited to 2 dives a day. This is one trip where we had the most time to chilled. Works out pretty well as it means ... Pina Cola by the Marina waiting for sunset or Expresso Martini in the Pool.

When the sun goes down, you could see thousands of star in the sky. We believe that we could see the milky way. Too bad we did not have internet connection as we were thinking of using google sky map so that we know which stars we were looking at.

J Hunter Pearl Farm Visit
On-board the glass bottom boat to look at the oysters

The guys have to manually retrieve each string of oysters, clean them individually and return them back into the water. The barnacles gets too heavy and the string will sag beyond 5- 7m depth which is the optimal nutrient level of the bay. It takes about 3-4 months to complete 1 cycle to clean the 1 million oysters in the bay

In another float shed, these ladies were "processing" the baby oysters, drilling with their "battery-power" drills and stringing them up

Of course, no visit is complete without shopping. Eilin has to fulfill her OBLIGATION to bring back pearls for her daughters. She gets a reminder each time she calls home ... "Mum, you got the pearls yet ?"

Chilling at the Cafe in town owned by Colin and Janine

Quick walk along Savusavu town, which consisted of just 1 street with about 30+ shops, a local market, a bus terminal and a ferry terminal. That's about it.

Sock went for the school visit while we are out diving. Cheery kids singing their hearts out.

Flower arrangement session by the resident florist in the Resort

The hike up a 45 degrees road to the Kavika Villa. All the bedrooms there were designed with full length windows that open up to this view. Wonder how much it cost to rent this place.

Sea Kayaking

"Unearthing" the Lovo Feast
At the backyard of the resort, we witnessed the unearthing of the lovo pit. The fish was wrapped with coconut leaves cooked in an underground pit with hot stones

Meke dance

Rainforest trek to a small waterfall at the back of the resort, enjoying a beer with a view
