Arriving in Tokyo (4 Nights)

20-24 Oct 2025
Has been about 5+ years since our last Japan trip. We arrived 2 nights earlier that the rest of the group so that I can check out my favourite haunts, pick-up some daifuku, prawn crackers and orientate ourselves before we start the trip proper.

Sake Hundred Ice Cream

20 Oct 2025
Feeling tired from a 6am flight. The flight only served an uninspiring breakfast, so we did not have anything to eat till we reached Tokyo at almost 5pm.
After a quick soba meal in a nearby restaurant, was happy to find a Sake Hundred ice cream right next to the hotel. Quick soak in the hotel onsen and ZZZ away.

Katsuo Shokudo かつお食堂

21 Oct 2025
First breakfast in Japan.
The best things in japan are always hidden in the basement. Definitely what it means by bursting with unami with a perfect balance. Total impressed with her dedication to make this "simple" bowl to perfection.

Akaoni 居酒屋 赤鬼

21 Oct 2025
Had to revisit this izakaya which I chanced upon 10 years ago. Surely, it did not disappoint. There are only that many places that can get both their food and sake right. Got to eat my fav Yaki miso again. Traditional izakaya dishes that were "designed" to match the wide range of sakes they had ... Sashimi platter, Cold yuba, Grilled ginko, Aged chestnut, Sansho ayu, Yakitori, Konnyaku sashimi, etc.

Aqua Design Amano (ADA) Laboratory

22 Oct 2025
We will be going to Niigata, where ADA HQ is located. They are currently not open to public, so this pop-up stall in Daimaru Tokyo is as near I can get to them for now.

Okonomiyaki Carp 広島お好み焼 カープ 東京支店

22 Oct 2025

Jazz BigBoy

22 Oct 2025
Has been raining all day, so finding a jazz cafe to hide out and chill seems like a good idea.

Eureka!

22 Oct 2025
We heard that they are known for their interesting pairing of sake with food. Japanese fusion tapas with a wide range of modern styled sakes.
Very appropriate venue for our group's first dinner together in Tokyo.

Super Hotel Premier Tokyo-eki Yaesu Chuo-guchi

20-24 Oct 2025
The hotel room is typical of Tokyo business hotel, very SMALL at 12m. However, service and facilities were very good. Pillow gallery with 8 different types to choose from, free flow bar (although we did not use it) and a well maintained onsen of carbonated water. Best of all, it is a 3 mins walk to tokyo station yaesu central exit.

Cute robo-dog sends you off when you check-out.
