Salmon Museum 三面川
25 Oct 2025Murakami Beef at Edoshow 伊豆庄
25 Oct 2025Took the recommendation of the folks at the visitor's center to try this restaurant that serves Murakami beef.
Frankly, the Murakami beef, while of good quality, did not blow us away. Maybe we have not found the right restaurant.

Coffee break at Enya Heritage House
25 Oct 2025Need a place to sit down and rest for a while. A 100-years old heritage house and an ultra friendly lady hosting the place, seems like a good option.
Sennen Salmon Kikkawa 千年鮭 きっかわ
25 Oct 2025The shop is in a old Machiya (traditional wooden townhouse). Sells salmon in various dried/preserved form. Old school charm with lots of salmon hanging from the ceiling.
Murakami (村上) Shopping Street
25 Oct 2025Taking our time strolling the streets of Murakami heritage houses selling everything salmon, sake and confectionary.
Takumi
25 Oct 2025Our original plan of eating ikura don did not work out as the 2 recommended restaurants were full or needed reservation. Chef of one of these restaurants recommended we try Takumi. Turned out to be a 10 course meal with excellent stuff.
Missing out on the ikura don in Murakami was probably the biggest miss for this trip. Lesson learnt, everything here needs reservations.

Our first stop is to the museum, where we got to know how Aoto Buheiji implemented splitting the river into 3 flows, protecting the spawning grounds of the salmons in Miomote river. His efforts revived a declined salmon population, and created a sustainable economic model for salmon cuisines and trade in Murakami. Best example of ESG.
Besides the usual exhibits, the museum has a tunnel which leads to an interesting partial underwater view of the Miomote river.
