Dec 2013 - Hell Valley of Noboribetsu
Took the first train 07:04 out of Hakodate to JR Noboribetsu. The tickets cost ¥6700+ per pax including reserved seats. Arrived at JR Noboribetsu 2.5 hours later and took the local bus to the Noboribetsu bus terminal.
Arriving at the hotel at 11am, it was too early to check-in, so we left the luggage with the hotel and went sightseeing.
Wanted to have early lunch but most of the restaurant were not open for business yet. Some manju and onsen eggs for snacks before do some trekking.

The trek up the hill to Oyuma lake

Now that all the hard work is done ... we can eat
I love finding small one-man operated restaurant ... Tokiya did not disappoint as usual.
There were only 3 items on the lunch menu, chicken, pork or fish. We ordered one of each and they were all good tasting home cooked styled food in generous portions.

I spotted something interesting on the dinner menu ... Aoimori Niniku (garlic). The owner e was kind enough to make an exception and stir up this simple but fantastic tasting garlic, although it was meant to be served during dinner only.

Soaking up the Onsen of Daiichi Takimoto
Checked-in to the Daiichi Takimoto, took a rest and got down to the primary business of Noboribetsu ... ONSEN !
This hotel has an onsen facility with 7 different water sources and about 10+ pools within. They call it the ONSEN heaven

Onsen water for drinking

The various art pieces within the hotel

Dinner was buffet style, food was OK at best ... but I guess I expected from from a Daiichi hotel

Breakfast the next morning was also buffet style. In fact, I thought that the breakfast was better then the dinner.
We took the Waku Waku bus from the hotel to Sapporo JR station. Really reasonable at ¥500 per pax. Bus left at 10:00 hrs sharp.
