Shopping in Shibuya

Last minute shopping in Shibuya trying to hunt down the elusive Japanese whisky before our flight home
17 Jan 2015 - Back in Tokyo
Arriving in Tokyo at 12pm, 12 hours of last minute shopping before the flight home.

Diamaru 1st floor in Tokyo Station ... our new benchmark for Mochi. The freshest and softest mochi.

Packing our share to take home. I usually like the traditional stuff but the Sakura mochi turned out very good. The fresh mochi expires in 1 day, so need self-control. Cannot buy too many.

Took a train to Shibuya Station, found lockers in the station, locked up our stuff and headed out to iTokyu basement food street.
Bought various take-away bento and had a simple lunch at the supermarket

I had wagyu roast beef sushi, mountain yam tofu very yummy at only ¥300 and Kurotuba Siew Mai

Seibu and iTokyu supermarket in Shibuya had an small but good range of whisky. They are still at a relatively affordable price in Japan compared to the escalated prices of Japanese whisky outside of Japan. [ If I am not wrong ... the Japanese does spell Whisky instead of Whiskey]

Found a Yamazaki 2014 limited edition (¥8000). All forms of Chichibu Whisky was totally sold out, but found some Ichiro's Malts blends which was a consolation.  Did not get the Sun Shine which had mixed reviews and was one of the trends where sake brewers were starting out to distill whisky. The standard Hibiki and Nikka's are available but are cheaper in airport duty-free ... provided the airport had stock. When we reach Haneda ... all the counters for Japanese Whisky were sold out except for the Taketsuru 25 year which I guess was the high-end stuff at almost ¥50k.

Rest stop at Hokkaido Milk Company at the basement of SEIBU. Parafait  - mixed berries, coffee jelly, seasalt caramel, matcha azuki

In LOFT departmental store, on the 4th (or 5th floor) in the household department was a range of miniatures :>

My final decision ...

Hachiko was crowded with people ... so we just said Hi and did not get a shot:>
From Shibuya Station, we did not have to go back to Tokyo Station to take the monorail to Haneda Airport
A short ride to Shinagawa Station, then the Keikyu line direct to Haneda Airport was cheaper and faster.

One more Tonkatsu dinner in Haneda Airport before we boarded the flight :>

Till next time ... Sayonara
